2. Important Dates and Program Duration

Fall Admission

Application submission period: January – March

Admission announcement: May – June

Semester period: September – January

 

Spring Admission

Application submission period: August – September

Admission announcement: November – December

Semester period: February ~ June

Bachelor’s: 4-6 years

Master’s: 1-4 years

3. General Admission Application and Materials

1. Certificate of highest-level diploma and transcript

2. One photocopy of financial statement in Chinese or English

3. A photocopy of certificate of citizenship: i.e., passport, residence certificate or birth certificate

4. Recommendation letters

5. Study plan including research plan

6. Autobiography

7. 2-inch photograph within 6 months

8. Minimum Chinese/English proficiency

9. Health Examination within 3 months

4. Language Proficiency

1. Bachelor’s programs are taught mainly in Chinese, and applicants need to fulfill the required Chinese language proficiency.

2. Every university and department has different requirements, please check each university’s website.

3. If applicants who cannot maintain good standing in coursework due to language difficulties will be encouraged to take Chinese language courses at their own expense at the Chinese language center.

5. Visa and ARC (especially for foreign students except for students from Mainland China)

1. Visitor Visa: Recommend for students who stay for 1 semester (less than 6 months / 180 days) or less to apply for.

2. Resident Visa: Recommend for students who stay for 1 academic (longer than 6 months) year to apply for.

3. ARC (Alien Resident Certificate): ARC is an ID card for students who hold a Resident Visa. If you arrived in Taiwan with a Resident Visa, you would need to apply for the ARC from the National Immigration Agency within 15 days of your arrival.

4. Please consult with a Taiwan diplomatic mission or visit the Bureau Consular Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website.

6. Finance

public tuition: 670-1350 USD / semester

private tuition: 1000-2850 USD / semester

cost of living: 170-350 USD / month

accommodation fee: 350-670 USD in school dorm

food expenses: 130-270 USD / month

book expenses: 170-270 USD / semester

total: about 5000 USD / semester

7. Scholarship (Mainly focus on Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship)

MOE Taiwan Scholarship

The Ministry of Education (MOE) Taiwan Scholarship Program provides tuition and miscellaneous expenses of up to NTD 40,000 each semester and a monthly living allowance of NTD 15,000 or NTD 20,000.

MOFA Taiwan Scholarship

Scholarship recipients will be given a monthly stipend of NT$25,000 for the LEP (the pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program) and NT$30,000 for degree programs. Recipients are responsible for all expenses during their stay in Taiwan.

Huayu Enrichment Scholarship

To encourage international students to study Huayu (Mandarin Chinese) in the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Ministry of Education (MOE) has established the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES).  HES scholarship may be used to take 2-month summer courses or 3-month, 6-month, 9-month, year-long courses. They provide a monthly stipend of 25,000 NTD.

8. What to do after arriving in Taiwan?

1. Accommodation

Most of the universities provide on-campus housing, you can also find off-campus housing. Below are some searching platforms that you can consider

2. Medical / Health Insurance

International students must register for health insurance during their stay in Taiwan. Students staying in Taiwan with a valid Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) for over six months continuously must enroll in National Health Insurance (NHI). Students must register for Group Medical Insurance if they do not have NHI.

3. Work Permit

International students who would like to do part-time jobs or internships in Taiwan must have a valid work permit before starting work. The maximum working time for students is 20 hours per week, except during summer and winter vacations.

4. SIM Card

When arriving at the airport, you can buy a SIM card at the airport.
