The Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language is an institute in the College of Humanities of the National Kaohsiung Normal University. It is a core institute for fostering Chinese as a Second or Foreign Language (CSL/CFL) teachers and researching CSL/CFL learning in Asia. It has contributed tremendously to international cross-domain understanding and to the foundation of the CSL/CFL learning academia. In recent years, the Institute has adopted a stringent and refined curriculum to foster CSL/CFL teachers in anticipation of gradually establishing a community of highly specialized teachers that comply with global ethical standards. These teachers will be at the center of shaping academia and society both domestically and internationally
The Institute offers three graduate-level programs, the Doctoral program, Master’s Program for Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language and the Credit Program for Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language. The Credit Program is offered to the second-year undergraduates to postgraduate students of any department. After graduation, these students will be qualified to teach in international schools, universities, or any private/public language or research institution, as well as elementary and junior high schools in Taiwan or overseas. Students can also continue their studies in Taiwan or overseas. The Master’s Program curricula can be categorized into four major subject categories, namely, basic subjects, applied subjects, research subjects, and other subjects (for non-Chinese language related background students). The Institute aims to foster students’ research and practical skills in CSL/CFL teaching. Students will be able to partake in a variety of on-site and online learning and internship opportunities in each semester to develop transnational and cross cultural competencies that conform to the times.
