- In 2021, National Ilan University (NIU) was awarded with the ranking of 1000+ by the Times World University Rankings.
- In 1926, NIU was founded as Taiwan Provincial Ilan School of Agriculture & Forestry. Since then, NIU has maintained its distinguished status in teaching as well as research.
- NIU ranks in the Top 3 National Universities for Teaching Excellence in Taiwan. Currently NIU is home to the College of Bioresources, College of Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and the College of Humanities and Management.
- NIU is committed to providing an excellent learning and entrepreneurial environment for students, by setting up an Innovation Incubation Center, Maker space and so on to work with local industries to train students and provide them with internship and entrepreneurial opportunities
- The College of Engineering and the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of NIU are accredited by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET), with its graduate certificate being internationally recognized.
- Since 2015, NIU has cooperated with the University of Michigan-Dearborn for a 3+2 program (NIU bachelor’s degree + UMD master’s degree) and has since also extended to a 1+1 double master’s degree program. The College of Humanities and Management has cooperated with Fuzhou University’s School of Economics & Management for a double master’s degree program. Moreover, since 2020, NIU has cooperated with Swiss Hotel Management School(SHMS) in Switzerland for 3+1, 2+1+1, and 3+2 degrees as well as an overseas internship program for the Department of Leisure Industry and Health Promotion. As of now, we have a total of about 70 sister schools around the world, including schools from the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand, France, Poland, Ireland, Hungary, Russia, and other European and American countries, as well as China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines and other Asian countries.
About Us
National Ilan University (NIU) started as Taiwan Provincial Ilan School of Agriculture & Forestry in 1926. Since then, NIU has maintained its distinguished status in academic as well as in research fields. Currently NIU is home to the College of Bioresources, College of Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and the College of Humanities and Management.
Main campus of NIU is located in Yilan city, a 50 minutes’ drive away from Taipei. Besides, NIU has its forest land in Jiaoxi for experimental application, forestation and ecological research, another campus at Wujie that focuses on professional animal research, and a newly established campus near Yilan Scientific Park for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) application and smart agriculture. The main campus sits in the center of Yilan city where students have convenient access to shopping mall, restaurants and other living facilities.
Apart from being an institution of education, NIU also plays a role in the providing technologies and knowledge into industrial and commercial endeavors. On the other hand, NIU also stand out as one of the main platforms and supporters for events regarding to Yilan history and culture, literatures, agricultures, and many more.

Comprehensive
Scholarships
(1) Scholarship :
- Graduate students: Upon approval by each relevant college evaluation committee, new students with excellent academic performance in their respective former degree programs, and current students with excellent academic performance in their previous semester will receive NT$8,000 per month.
- Undergraduate students: Upon approval by each relevant college evaluation committee, new students with excellent academic performance in their respective former academic studies, and current students or transfer students with excellent academic performance in their previous semester, will receive NT$4,000 per month.
(2) Tuition and Miscellaneous Fees waivers:
- New students are granted half Tuition and Miscellaneous Fees waivers in their first academic year.
- Upon approval by each relevant college evaluation committee, new students with excellent academic performance in their respective former degree programs, and current students or bachelor degree transfer students with excellent academic performance in their previous semester, will receive a full Tuition and Miscellaneous Fees waiver.
(3) School Dormitory Fees Waivers：
- Upon approval by each relevant college evaluation committee, new graduate and doctoral students with excellent academic performance in their former degrees, and current graduate and doctoral students with excellent academic performance in their previous semester, will receive full School Dormitory Fees waivers.
(4) Financial aid awards last one academic year for new students and one semester for current students. Current students who are eligible should re-apply for financial aid every semester beginning with their third semester of enrollment.
(5) The maximum period covered by financial aid awards will be 8 semesters for undergraduate students, 4 semesters for master’s students, and 6 semesters for doctoral students.
