Hi, everyone! My name is Brandol Ortega, but everyone in Taiwan calls me Jahan. I come from Panama, but I got my bachelor’s degree here in Taiwan. I really love Taiwan, so I decided to keep studying here. My academic interest goes around China and Taiwan, and that is the reason why I decided to study the International Master Program in Asia-Pacific Affairs (IMAPA) offered by NSYSU. This program offers a good selection of courses not only about China and Taiwan, but also about neighboring countries and the region as a whole. My classmates are all foreigners, and they come from all parts of the world. In some English courses you may find one or a few Taiwanese classmates taking the course with you; and if your Chinese language ability is good enough you can also take courses from our sister master’s program from the Institute of China and Asia-Pacific Studies (ICAPS) which has a similar curriculum with IMAPA but with courses offered in Chinese.
Our campus is beautiful. The dorms are close to the mountains, and the track and field are close to the ocean. I personally like to walk next to the ocean at night. There is a very good friendly environment regardless of if you can speak Chinese or not, your English will be more than enough to move around on campus and enjoy a pleasant student life. I really encourage you to come to Taiwan and study in NSYSU. Believe me, it is a very good university; and you will learn and enjoy as much as it is possible.
