This year’s ranking included 1,227 schools worldwide, with 78 more than last year.
The President of MCUT, Dr. Thu-Hua Liu, said that reaching the top 1,000 in the global rankings on the area of research as a university with 195 faculty members and less than 5,000 students shows the strength of the strong research foundation and the hardworking efforts made by all the teachers and students. One of the ultimate goals is to get published in the most prestigious and highly-cited journals.
President Liu also mentioned that with the support of the board of directors and the hard work of the entire staff, MCUT has applied the five major research fields of “health biotech”, “medical care”, “green energy technologies”, “plasma technologies” and “design & innovation” as the themes to establish ten special research centers, including “Biochemical Technology R&D Center”, “Center for Plasma and Thin Film Technologies”, “Chinese Traditional Medicinal Herbal Extraction and Purification Center”, “Battery Research Center of Green Energy”, “Organic Electronics Research Center”, “Center on Reliability Engineering”, “Research Center for Intelligent Medical Devices”, “Research Center for Artificial Intelligence & Data Science”, “Environmental Sustainability and Health Promotion Research Center” and “Intelligent Vehicles Research and Development Center” so as to create an academic environment which supports research in a sustainable way. By striving for the national and integrated research projects sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education and actively undertaking the government-commissioned and private sector industry-university collaboration projects, all the MCUT teachers and students have used their cumulative research strength to build connections between academic research and industry technology and to make research and development more efficient. Their diligence and hard work have reflected the strong ambitions of the university. President Liu expects that MCUT is able to keep its original beliefs and continue serving as the guardian for the research and development of Taiwan and the cradle to nurture its graduates to become future talents for the industry.
